Scaling & Root Planing

Scaling and root planing refer to a pair of procedures used in tandem to treat advanced gum disease. Dr. Bustillo-Gonzalez will use special instruments to carefully clean away the harmful, gum disease-causing bacteria that become trapped beneath the gumline. Once these deep pockets have been cleaned out and disinfected, the roots of the teeth can be smoothed so that the surrounding tissue begins to heal and reattach itself.
Antibiotic Treatment

When planning out how to best treat your gum disease, we may recommend localized antibiotic therapy to target infections right at their source. After a deep cleaning, we can use antibiotics such as Arestin microspheres to directly treat the gum pockets where bacteria thrive. The microspheres will gradually release medication over the course of two weeks to reduce the presence of harmful bacteria and support long-term healing.
Laser Periodontal Treatment

Unlike traditional gum disease treatment methods, laser periodontal therapy specifically targets and removes harmful bacteria in the gums while minimizing damage to the surrounding healthy tissue, all thanks to the precision of the Picasso soft tissue laser. This innovative instrument also promotes faster healing, reduces bleeding and swelling, and ensures far less discomfort during and following the procedure.
